Every year, All Saints Academy staff and students wait in anticipation of World Book Day. This year was by no means any different. A plethora of events took place, including Collective Hall Worship which looked at the power of ‘never ending stories’ in the parables and also how stories and reading empower us in our everyday lives.

In addition we celebrated with:

  • Every tutor group creating their favourite character door – with Oswald 3 being the ultimate winners! (The six best tutor groups all got reward points in their House)
  • Teachers dressing up as their favourite characters- Team English won the group prize as the ‘Great Gatsby’ and the office staff were runners up as characters from ‘Matilda’
  • Drop Everything And Read – KS3 enjoyed reading each lesson and contributing a donation to the school library (just under £300 pounds was raised!)
  • A book cake competition- A joint 1st place by brothers Harrison and Benjamin in Year 8 and also Aimee in Year 7
  • A Big literature quiz – AI3 and CU3 joint winners!
  • The Big Reading Race- students read as many books as they can and entered a token (Mrs Lees read 8!) Aidan were the overall winners

Reading is a key priority at All Saints Academy, World Book Day is a day we all celebrate, but our focus that ‘Reading Matters’ every day of our lives is central to our ethos.
