Debating Competition Winners

Posted on February 1st 2020

debateBarnard Castle and Darlington Rotary Club’s annual debating competition for young people was held at Teesdale School and Sixth Form on Saturday.

Cheered on by their supporters, teams from All Saints Academy,  Barnard Castle School; Darlington Youth Partnership; and Teesdale School and Sixth Form debated complex social issues. This year the problems posed for discussion were: “Has a competitive society created a knife crime epidemic?” and "Childhood vaccinations should be compulsory".

In addition to inter-team debates, all participants answered questions from both the judges and audience members.

The winning team was adjudged to be Millie, Valerie and Evie from our Academy. They received a team trophy and individual awards which were presented by the Mayors of Barnard Castle and Darlington.

A very special thank you must be given to Mrs Doree, who has spent many hours supporting the students to be ready for the competition this weekend.
