Science provides an understanding of our world, from the physical world we experience everyday to theoretical concepts such as the creation of the universe. Science lessons focus upon developing the skills necessary to analyse and draw conclusions from the vast quantities of scientific data encountered not only from lab-based experiments, but also from sources as diverse as television, field work and the internet.
In years 7 and 8 the foundations of science are covered, with topics such as cells, space, chemical reactions and forces. From year 9 these ideas are developed in more detail and explore the application of science in double or triple award GCSE. Students who opt to take triple award, separate sciences in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, leave their options open for future science based careers such as engineering and medicine.
