'Period 6' is up and running at All Saints

Posted on October 20th 2016

Period 6 has been a real success since its introduction early in this half-term. Over 600 student sign-ups  for activities have been recorded across the full range of activities. Some students are attending more than one Period 6 activity during the week but it is clear that a large number of our students are taking advantage of the opportunities afforded by the activities available to them.

We are still expanding the activity list, for example, over sixty students have been invited to join Period 6 reading groups, sharing the chosen book with one another, taking turns to read aloud and discuss the book. This is part of our concerted effort to improve the reading age of our students and encourage reading for enjoyment. The reading groups are starting with one of the David Walliams books which all seem very popular.

We have also booked a trip to see the stage production of 'Gansta Granny' at the Sunderland Empire in 2017, as a recognition and reward for those who are active members of the reading groups.
